ARTS PLURIEL is a non-profit cultural association that works throughout Niger to promote activities relating to the production of cultural works and events in ideal conditions for the emergence of new talent in the fields of arts and culture.
The project “Sah’Elle” is an initiative of the Africa Cup of Slam Poetry in partnership with associations from affiliate countries (Niger, Burkina Faso, Mauritania) to promote freedom of expression and combat violence against young women through oratory art.

Unalterable sources of learning, passed down through word of mouth from parent to child, countless African stories, genuine oral treasures, are threatened with oblivion due to a lack of conservation means. The GRoupe Efrouba pour la Culture (Efrouba Group for Culture, GREC) was born out of this observation, led by a group of writers in Grand-Lahou, Côte d'Ivoire. It is committed to showcasing oral heritage through the promotion of national storytellers.

The aim of the “Faim de contes” (roughly “Hungry for stories”) project is to act quickly in order to compile these wonderful African stories inherited from our ancestors and record them to media for future generations.

6 books have already been published and are available to purchase, and the NGO aims to expand the “Faim de contes” collection with 10 new books of Ivorian stories this year. To maximise the distribution media, the project also includes the audio and audiovisual transcription of the books.

Faim de contes

The creation of the NGO Groupe Efrouba pour la Culture (GREC) in Grand-Lahou (south-western Côte d'Ivoire) was motivated by a group of writers' desire to decentralise the book promotion sector, 95% of whose activities take place in Abidjan. GREC is now multiplying its literary activities in Côte d'Ivoire and on the African continent, and extending its field of intervention to education, tourism, gastronomy, etc.

The main objective of "Faim de contes" is to enhance the oral traditions of Côte d'Ivoire through the promotion and professionalisation of native traditional storytellers. This new project is an opportunity for GREC to acquire human, technical and financial resources to bring together 12 Ivorian storytellers from different regions, to transcribe their stories into works that will be offered to publishers worldwide.
